The name of
our preschool, pronounced ke-shet, means "rainbow." The rainbow, the symbol of
G-d's covenant with Noah and with all future generations, also symbolizes our
school's commitment to offer children a learning environment that nurtures a
love for and an understanding of our Jewish heritage, traditions, and values.
We have
planned our program to serve the needs of each child. Our goal is to increase
our children's awareness of the world in which they live through a program that
encourages social, emotional, educational, and physical development.
Keshet's
warm, friendly, and stimulating environment enables all of our children to feel
comfortable, express themselves openly, and become valued members of the group.
We strive to provide the proper educational climate that children need. Our
method of teaching is based on the philosophy of Piaget — a hands-on approach
that takes the individual child's learning, pace, and style into consideration
at all times.
All
our activities, such as painting, constructing, cutting, gluing, hammering,
storytelling, singing, playing outdoors, free play, preparing snack, and even
eating lunch, are organized to meet the needs of the whole child and make the
process of learning a positive and enjoyable experience. Pre-reading skills are
an important part of our program. They include all forms of large and small
motor coordination, language arts, creative movement, music, rhythm, oral
language, listening skills, dramatic play, and perceptual awareness.
Judaism
and its customs and traditions are woven into our broad educational program. At
Keshet, we observe Jewish customs, holidays, and ceremonies. A typical day at Keshet includes
free play, circle time, playground time, story
time, group activities, snack time, and enrichment activities.
Time to grow;
time and room to explore, to experiment, to discover; time to play; and time to
be a child - these are the core values of Keshet.
